Maggie Tseng is an illustrator, painter, and mythmaker based in Los Angeles. Her work explores alchemy and astrology not merely as esoteric practices, but as symbolic frameworks. She invites viewers into liminal spaces—ones that don’t require exact knowledge of their references but instead offer a patina of signs: some recognizable, some felt, others unknown. It’s through this tension of omission and inclusion that the work finds its potency.

Her images are layered using acrylic, graphite, and occasional digital overlays. By “ruining” and rebuilding these layers, she honors collaboration with chance creating a visual site of ontological inquiry—where creative play allows experience to be continuously reconstituted into the evolving facets of her philosopher’s stone: both metaphor and method, a vessel for transformation shaped by intuition.

For Maggie, the beauty of myth lies in its pattern-seeking—an insistence that meaning exists, even when it can’t be fully known. Mythology and storytelling form the blood and veins of these ancient systems, transmitting generational knowledge, dreams, and anxieties through time.

She received her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2019. Her work has appeared in Visionary Art Collective, Hexentexte, and Brea Gallery, and she has collaborated with clients including Walmart, Amazon, Interscope Records, and The Indy.
